North Wales Crusaders’ Owain Abel has agreed a new deal with the club, keeping the full-back in North Wales for the next two years.

Abel joined Crusaders in 2023, making 17 appearances in which he scored 41 points during his first season with the club, including scoring a dramatic last minute drop-goal against Hunslet in the League One play-off semi-final.

Having started the 2024 season strongly, Abel’s development was halted after sustaining a long-term injury which put end to his season, however, Crusaders head coach Carl Forster has opted to hand Abel a new deal which shall allow him time to complete his recovery before pulling on a Crusaders shirt once again.

On Abel’s new deal, Forster said: “Owain’s a big character around the club.

“Although he is currently sidelined with a long-term injury, we see him as a huge part of the group.

“It was important to tie him down on a two-year-deal to show our loyalty towards him and our support to him in the recovery from his injury, but also to keep his talents with us.

“He’s shown in the last two years that he can win games on his own, and we will be a better team with him in it.

“Owain’s still got a big role to play this season working closely with me on match days and getting the best out of himself and his teammates.”
