North Wales Crusaders make the journey to greater Manchester this weekend looking to avenge a last-second defeat inflicted on them by Oldham RLFC just a few months ago.
Scared by seeing their three match winning run come to an end last weekend, life for Carl Forster’s Crusaders gets no easier this weekend as they travel to face an Oldham side hotly tipped to win League One in 2024.
👥 Squad News
With Crusaders facing an injury crisis, Carl Forster has been forced to change combinations once again. Toby Hughes was the latest figure to be added to an ever lengthening injury list last weekend, however, Forster will benefit from the return of fan favourite Kenny Baker who could be inline to start this weekend having signed a deal until the end of the 2024 season this week.
🗒️ Opposition
Oldham need little introduction to North Wales Crusaders fans, with meetings between the two sides often proving to be entertaining affairs.
Crusaders’ last visit to Boundary Park saw them knock Sunday’s hosts out of the 2023 Betfred League One play-offs, shocking the rugby league world with a 13-12 victory.
However, Oldham took their revenge this year, breaking Crusaders hearts as Danny Craven slotted over a last-second drop-goal at Stadiwm CSM to take two points home for his side.
Despite the close call, Oldham have remained near faultless this season, tasting just one defeat all year in the shape of a 28-18 loss to fellow title chasers Keighley Cougars.
The Roughyeds have recruited strongly for the 2024 season, building a squad which wouldn’t look out of place in the Championship.
🗣️ What The Coach Says
Speaking to the media this week, Crusaders head coach Carl Forster has insisted that his side mean business when they travel to face Oldham this weekend.
Despite an ever-growing injury list, Forster said that he has every confidence that his team are capable of causing an upset at Boundary Park for a second year running.
