Having received a high level of interest and applications for the role of Head Of Academy, North Wales Crusaders are pleased to confirm the appointment of Jon Burgess to the role, with Jon due to start in the position from next month.

With a strong background in both rugby league and rugby union, Burgess, based in North Wales, has delivered the North Wales Crusaders Foundation’s community programmes and development coaching over the past two years whilst also working with the Wales Rugby League student’s side.

In his role of Head Of Academy, Burgess shall oversee the full development pathway from youth age groups through to the Crusaders first-team in addition to the running of our reserve team and elite development squads.

On the appointment of Jon, North Wales Crusaders CEO Arun Watkins said: “Jonathan’s passion for the club and development is phenomenal.

“He buys into who we are and what we want to achieve – I’m really excited for him to join us.”

Commenting on the role, Burgess said: “I am pleased to be taking up the role of Head of Academy at the club.

“It’s an incredible opportunity to help nurture and develop the next generation of talent, fostering growth both on and off the field.

“I look forward to working alongside the players, staff, and community to build a strong and successful academy programme.

“Together, we will aim to create a pathway for young athletes to reach their full potential and contribute to the legacy of the North Wales Crusaders.”

He added: “I would like to express my gratitude to Nick Settle, Head of Foundation, for providing me with the opportunity to transition into a full-time role within Rugby League two years ago.

“During my time with the Foundation, we have accomplished remarkable achievements within our local community, fostering growth and development across North Wales.

“It has been inspiring to see the community flourish, and I eagerly anticipate the day when the Mini-Crusaders progress through our pathway, contributing to the future of the sport.”

Jon shall also continue to support the Foundation whilst a replacement is found for his current role over the coming weeks.
