North Wales Crusaders made it two wins from two with a 60-0 victory over Newcastle Thunder in the North East.
Fresh off the back of a 52-0 victory over Cornwall, Carl Forster’s side continued where they left off last weekend running in 12 tries at Blaydon RFC as they booked their place in the next round of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup.
Sam Wilde opened the scoring with just five minutes on the clock, crossing for a debut try to give Crusaders an early lead.
The visitors built from there, as Jack Holmes and Joe Baldwin crossed within moments of each other, extending the lead to 12 points.
With 25 minutes gone, Baldwin found the line for his second time of the afternoon before Jordy Gibson brought the half to a close with a brace sending the teams into the break 30-0 apart.
Crusaders continued to extend their lead early in the second half as Ollie Brookes finished a smart play in the corner for his fifth try of the season before efforts from Matt Reid and Jake Spedding took the game further away from the hosts.
However, Newcastle didn’t let heads drop. Looking to open their account and capitalise on penalties conceded by Crusaders, the home side threw everything they had at Forster’s side, only to be met by a solid defensive effort which kept them out.
On the back of their defensive showing, Crusaders regained their control of the game, as Lloyd Roby and Josh Eaves crossed the whitewash within three minutes of each other before Holmes capped a dominant display scoring with just three minutes to go, bringing the final score to 60-0.
