North Wales Crusaders shall begin their 2025 season with a trip to the south coast where they’ll face Cornwall in round two of the Betfred Challenge Cup.
Carl Forster’s side will be looking to progress in the tie where a home game against Rochdale or Widnes awaits the victor on the road to Wembley.
In Opposition:
Sunday’s opponents, like Crusaders, have been subject of an off-season takeover as ownership was transferred to Ken Stone in November 2024.
Since the takeover was confirmed, the Choughs have announced a string of player retentions in addition to open trials as they look to continue their development as a club.
2024 saw Cornwall finish 8th in League One with a notable victory away at Midlands Hurricanes adding to wins over Newcastle.
Crusaders’ last visit to the Memorial Ground saw Forster’s side narrowly avoid a scare, coming back from 10-0 down to secured a 16-10 victory in Betfred League One.
Last Time Out:
The last meeting between the two sides came on the final day of the 2024 season as Crusaders welcomed Cornwall to Stadiwm CSM.
Despite already being out of the play-off race, Forster’s side put in a professional display to secure a 40-10 victory over Sunday’s opponents.
What The Coach Says:
Crusaders head coach Carl Forster is looking forward to seeing his side in action following two pre-season friendlies being called off.
Speaking to the media ahead of the game, Forster said: “We just can’t wait to get out onto the pitch and into competitive action, and what better way to do that than in the Challenge Cup.
“The hardest part is having to pick that final squad given the fact we’ve had no pre-season games, but the competition for places this year is really strong, and that can only be a good thing.
“Cornwall won’t be easy opponents, especially down at their place, there’s a lot of travel involved, and it’s always a hard place to go, but we want to get off to a winning start and progress in this competition.”
