North Wales Crusaders are delighted to confirm a new deal for promising half-back Toby Hughes.
Hughes arrived in North Wales from amateur side Newton Strom during the 2023 season, working his way into Carl Forster’s side and playing a vital role in their run to the play-off final including the scoring of a dramatic last-minute drop-goal against Oldham.
2024 saw Hughes establish himself as a regular starter in League One during his first full-season since stepping into the professional leagues, earning him a new deal for 2025.
This season Hughes’ game has continued to develop, aided by the arrivals of experienced half-backs Jordy Gibson and Jamie Dallimore, with Toby going on to play a pivotal part in our victory over Goole Vikings last weekend.
On signing a new deal with the club, Hughes said: “I’m made up to re-sign with the club.
“t’s been the best year yet for me personally, working with a class group of players.
“I just want to thank Foz [Carl Forster], all the coaching staff, Bobby and Arun for renewing my deal.
“I’ve learnt so much this year and hoping to push on next year, but first of all we need one last push from all the fans this Sunday!”
North Wales head coach Carl Forster added: “It’s great to keep Toby at the club, the improvements we’ve seen this season has been outstanding and in any other team I believe he plays every week.
“He’s keen to learn and pick the brains of the senior guys in the group.
“His hard work behind the scenes hasn’t gone unnoticed this year, and I’ve no doubt we will see a lot more of Toby in a Crusaders shirt for the foreseeable future.”
