North Wales Crusaders head coach Carl Forster has insisted that his side won’t be getting carried away with their perfect start to the 2025 season as they prepare to host Championship side Widnes Vikings in the Betfred Challenge Cup.

Crusaders have started the season brightly with two victories in as many games, scoring 112 points and conceding none during long trips to face Cornwall and Newcastle Thunder.

Despite the strong start to the campaign, Crusaders head coach Carl Forster has said that the message will be clear going into this weekend’s cup tie against Widnes: “I’m really, really pleased with the whole squad for our performances, and I think that we’ve only just got started, he said.

“However, we have to stay grounded, and that’s the message to the boys this week, we’ve had two really good results, but the hard work starts now against a Widnes side who made the play-offs in the Championship last season.”

Looking ahead to this weekend’s clash, Forster added: “It will give us a good idea of where we’re at, we’ll go into the game with nothing to lose and the pressure all on Widnes to come to North Wales and progress being the higher ranked side.

“We’ll be concentrated on us, play our game and not the occasion, and just get our basics right.

“I’ve got a really good squad, and an ever better group in terms of the personalities we have, so I’m confident that we’ll go out there on Sunday in front of a good crowd and show what we’re going to be about this season.

“To add to that, it’s been a long time since that September game against Cornwall in Colwyn Bay, and we can’t wait to get out in front of our fans.”
