North Wales Crusaders head coach Carl Forster says that his side are now firmly focused on their trip to face Midlands Hurricanes in two weeks time following the cancellation of this weekend’s fixture after Cornwall’s withdrawal from the league.
Speaking to the media, Forster said: “I’m gutted that this weekend has turned out the way it has done, not just from our point of view, but also with a thought to Cornwall as it’s never nice to see people lose their jobs.
“I’m sat there Wednesday preparing a training session ready for Sunday and I get a message that Cornwall have pulled out of the league, it came as a huge shock, and the lads are really disappointed.
“I think we’re doing it really tough at the moment, the schedule just isn’t allowing us to gain momentum, we’ve had three weeks off, played a game, two weeks off, play another and so on, it’s not easy on the boys.
“You look at it as well, I think we’ve played six games so far, five of which have been away, now it’s another away trip to Midlands, so I think it’s something for the powers at be to look at in future as the schedule, in my opinion, could have been worked out a little better.
“That draws a line under it now though, I’ve said my piece, and you won’t ever find me using that as an excuse, we’re just players and staff who naturally want to be playing games.
“If anything it only gives me greater pride in my players that in spite of everything thrown at us, we sit in the top four, unbeaten.
“We’ve got two weeks now before what looks like could be a huge fixture away to Midlands Hurricanes.
“Mark Dunning has them playing some really nice rugby, they’re a big side, good on the ball and their wingers have the ability to cause any team problems.
“They’re flying at the moment, sit top of the league as we speak now, and they’ll hold their own aspirations of promotion.
“That sets us a challenge as a group, if we want to be fighting out at the top of the table then we need to go there and give a really strong account of ourselves. Midlands play this week as well, so I’ll be watching that closely.”
