🏉 Vacancy: Head of Athletic Performance

As we prepare for our exciting return to the Betfred Championship—the second tier of elite rugby league in Europe—we’re seeking a dynamic and driven Head of Athletic Performance to join our coaching team.

This pivotal role will see you collaborate closely with our Head Coach, Head of Medical, and Team Manager to lead and manage the physical development of our Championship squad. You’ll be instrumental in shaping a high-performance culture that supports athlete growth and minimizes injury risk.

📍 Location: Greater Manchester / North Wales

🕒 Commitment: Initially part-time (two evenings per week + matchday), with potential to evolve into a full-time position.

🔧 Key Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver a comprehensive strength and conditioning programme for the first team squad.
• Develop periodised plans for strength, speed, agility, and conditioning tailored to rugby league performance.
• Conduct and support biomechanical, strength diagnostic, and field-based physiological assessments.
• Analyse player data to inform interventions and optimise individual performance.
• Implement physical testing protocols aligned with RFL standards to track progress and programme effectiveness.
• Coach athletes in proper weightlifting and conditioning techniques to support long-term development.
• Collaborate with coaching staff to structure seasonal training plans that reflect club values and goals.
• Work alongside medical personnel to ensure effective rehabilitation strategies for injured players.
• Maintain essential qualifications including Mental Health First Aid, Safeguarding, DBS, and UKAD Clean Sport certification.

🎯 What We’re Looking For:

• BSc/MSc in Strength and Conditioning.
• UKSCA accreditation or currently working towards it.
• Strong understanding of elite Rugby League performance demands.
• Experience with biomechanical and physiological assessment technologies.
• Knowledge of injury prevention strategies in high-performance sport.
• Ability to translate research into practical, impactful programming.
