Fresh off the back of seeing their men’s first-team crowned Betfred League One champions, North Wales Crusaders have now been celebrating a historic day for the club as it’s new women’s programme got underway last week.

The side, led by Dave Hewitt and Armani Sharrock, both of whom have been brought in from Salford Red Devils, are looking to enter the RFL’s Women’s league structure for the 2026 season, with an ambition to reach the Women’s Super League in the coming years.

Last Wednesday saw the club hold an open trial evening at Liverpool Hope University where a selection of players were put through their paces as plans pick up pace in preparation for the new season.

The next open training session shall take place in North Wales at Stadiwm CSM on Sunday 2nd November with women of all abilities and experience welcome to attend as the coaches look to select their squad for the inaugural campaign.

Speaking to nwcrusadersrl.com, women’s Head Coach, Dave Hewitt, said: “It has been a busy few weeks with a lot of interest, and it was great to carry out our first open session and for me to share the ambition of where the club wants to be, including the end goal becoming an established Super League team; playing home games in Colwyn Bay alongside the men’s first team and reserves.

“We showed the players around the training facilities and how we intend on providing the players a platform to build a high performing team as soon as possible.

“We are excited to announce our second open day session will be at the stadium to give the players visibility of where the home games will be and to get them familiar with the surroundings, and we would like to invite players at any level from any background to come and give Rugby League a go!”
