North Wales Crusaders moved to within one win of the Betfred League Table as they returned to winning ways against a strong Goole Vikings side at Stadiwm CSM.

Forster’s side entered the game top of the table, knowing that two victories from their remaining three games would seal the league title regardless of results elsewhere.

Their opponents arrived in North Wales in good form, with five wins from their last six games, however, Crusaders but back-to-back league defeats behind them as they ground out a solid victory on the coast.

The home side had the first notable chance of the game as Ollie Brookes saw his effort in the corner chalked off having been adjudged to have not grounded the ball.

At the other end of the field, Goole then saw an effort of their own ruled out as Jason Tali’s celebrations were cut short with the referee pulling play back for a knock-on in the build up.

Moments later the scoring was eventually opened as Crusaders captain Chris Barratt powered through the Goole defence before grounding the ball to give his side an early lead.

The advantage was soon doubled after Lloyd Roby had been held up, Sam Wilde made no mistake in finding the line.

As the clock struck 20 minutes gone, North Wales found their third. Nice play on the last tackle saw a lively Toby Hughes shift the ball to Kieran Taylor who turned the Viking’s defence and scored.

Crusaders then turned victims of their own down fall as back-to-back errors left Goole in a good position to attack, from which Jamie Shaul found space to run through and score.

Re-gaining control of the game before half-time, the home side added a further two points to their tally as Jordy Gibson converted a penalty awarded for a high-tackle in front of the posts.

The second-half belong largely to Crusaders.

Having seen an earlier chance go begging, Pat AhVan made no mistake at the second time of asking as he ran onto a looping pass to the wing and rounded the defence to score.

Having slotted over a drop-goal just minutes from full-time, Gibson wasn’t done there as a well worked move starting from inside their own half saw Crusaders break with Gibson finishing under the posts to secure a 31-6 victory.

Attention for Carl Forster’s side now turns to next Sunday where victory over Keighley in Colwyn Bay shall see them crowned Betfred League One champions.
